Residents of Santa Barbara County have access to local self service legal resources center in addition to what information is provided in this web site. These services are available to the self-represented litigant and make it easier for you to represent yourself.

This site can only provide you with the MINIMUM forms required for filing the different types of cases in Santa Barbara County.  It does NOT provide information regarding HOW to fill out forms. 

CONSULT THE FAMILY LAW FACILITATOR: For legal help with family law issues, including:

  • divorce,
  • legal separation,
  • annulment,
  • parentage,
  • child support,
  • custody and visitation,
  • spousal support and
  • health insurance.


CONSULT THE PROBATE FACILITATOR: For individuals in the north county seeking a Conservatorship or Guardianship of the person only, the Santa Maria court location, through the Sargent Shriver Civil Counsel Act grant program, has available the services of a Probate Facilitator.

The Probate Facilitator is a licensed attorney who can assist you with seeking a Conservatorship or Guardianship of the person only (not of the estate), including assistance with Petitions, Objections, Terminations, Visitation, Successors, Fee Waivers, Notice and Service, Annual Status Reports and more. The Probate Facilitator does not represent you in court. The services of the Probate Facilitator are free to you, with no income qualifications.

CONSULT THE LEGAL RESOURCE CENTER: For legal help with general civil matters, including

  • small claims matters,
  • collections, including the collection of a judgment;
  • unlawful detainer and landlord/tenant disputes,
  • uncontested guardianship,
  • step-parent adoption,
  • domestic violence restraining orders and responses,
  • civil harassment restraining orders and responses,
  • name changes, and
  • expungements.
